Safety routines
Sign-in and pickup
Children are signed in at the front desk and handed back only to the adult who signed them in, or a person named at sign-in.
Mat and gear
Clean uniforms, short nails, no jewelry and no shoes on the mat. A coach checks the mat before every class.
Tapping
Every student learns to tap in their first class, and every partner lets go at once. Coaches step in when a round gets too rough.
Illness and injury
Anyone with a fever or a rash stays home, and coaches ask about sore joints in person before class.
Sample details.
Family policies
What families and new students ask before the first class.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
Watching a class and a promotion day
Parents are welcome on the bench at the edge of the mat for the Saturday kids' class. For adult classes, ask at the desk before you come to watch so we can find a good time. On promotion days, please stay quiet during the line-up and skip the flash.
What to wear and bring
For a first class, a plain t-shirt and shorts or leggings with no zippers. Hair tied back, no jewelry, nails short and no shoes on the mat. Ask at the desk about borrowing a gi for your first classes.
When to keep your child home
Please stay home with a fever, vomiting, a rash or anything that spreads, and come back when you are well. Tell your coach about a sore shoulder or knee in person before class, and please don't send health details through the site.
Drop-off and pickup
Children are signed in at the front desk and stay in the building until the adult who dropped them off, or a person named at sign-in, comes back. We ask for photo ID from anyone the coach doesn't know.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close on major holidays and post any weather closure on our Instagram page and by text message before the first class of the day.
Leaving the program
Tell us in writing at least 30 days before your next billing date. The full terms are on the how tuition works page.
Screens and phones
Phones stay on silent and out of the mat area. Please ask a coach before filming a class, because other students are in the frame.
Questions we haven't answered?
Write to the front desk and a coach will reply.
